Tarnaka: Unable to bear dowry harassment from her in-laws, a woman committed suicide by consuming a bathroom cleaning solution. According to the police and the victim’s family members, Nagamani is a daughter of Balaram and Lakshmi Bai. She was married to Maruthi Kumar in 2014. She works in Tirumalgiri MRO office as VRO.
Maruthi Kumar took Rs 2 lakh cash and Rs 1 lakh gold as dowry at the time of marriage. While Maruthi was working in London as a software engineer, Nagamani was transferred to Secunderabad RTO office a few months ago.
Soon after her marriage, her in-laws started harassing her for more dowry and Maruthi has also harassed her for dowry. Recently, when he was admitted at Yashodha hospital for illness, the doctors suggested a surgery which costs Rs 7 lakh. All of them together pressurized her to bring the required money from her parents. Depressed over the harassment from her in-law’s family, On December 15th, she consumed bathroom cleaning solution and attempted to committ suicide. Her family members shifted her to Secunderabad Apollo hospital where she died while undergoing the treatment on Thursday morning.
The victim’s parents claim that their daughter was killed by her in-laws. They also protested before the hospital on Thursday. When they tried to attack the accused house, the police stopped them. Based on a complaint, police filed a case and started the investigation.
