Hyderabad Jan 27 (PMI) A tiger that has reportedly been preying on cattle in Yadadri Bhuvanigiri district has been captured on camera traps installed in the forest areas of Turkapally mandal, forest department sources said.
According to officials, the tiger is estimated to be around five years old and weighs approximately 250 kilograms. Describing the animal as healthy, a forest official said the tiger has been venturing close to human habitations located near forest fringes and targeting cattle for food due to the absence of natural prey such as deer, wild cattle, or wild pigs in the region.
Villagers claim that the sighting marks the return of a tiger to the Yadadri Bhuvanigiri forests after nearly seven decades. However, forest officials clarified that there is no official or recorded history of tiger presence in this particular forest belt, suggesting that the animal may have strayed from another reserve.
In response to the situation, trackers from various tiger reserve forests across the State have been deployed to assist local forest staff in monitoring and tracking the tiger’s movements. Special teams have been constituted to handle the situation and to ensure public safety.
On Tuesday, senior forest department officials visited Dattaipally, Ibrahimpur, and Ralla Janagaon villages in the district and inspected the locations where cattle had reportedly been killed.
The higher officials instructed field staff to remain on high alert and maintain round-the-clock vigilance in and around the forest and nearby villages. Villagers have also been advised to stay cautious, avoid venturing into forest areas alone, and immediately report any sightings of the tiger to forest authorities.(pressmediaofindia.com)
