UNITED NATIONS/ GAZA STRIP: UN’s Palestinian refugee agency says half a million people are threatened by sewage flood amid Gaza’s rainy season, and cold temperatures will take a toll on thousands of malnourished people.
Hezbollah fires 340 missiles and drones at Israel, according to Israeli Army Radio, wounding 11 people and causing “severe damage” in Tel Aviv, as Israel continues to bomb Beirut.
Israeli forces carry out new attacks on the Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, a day after an assault that killed two people and wounded more than a dozen medical staff, including the director of the besieged facility.
Israel’s genocide in Gaza has killed at least 44,211 Palestinians and wounded 104,567 since October 7, 2023. An estimated 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led attacks that day and more than 200 were taken captive.
In Lebanon, at least 3,754 people have been killed and 15,626 wounded in Israeli attacks since the war on Gaza began.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz, citing the Haifa Municipality, reports that the building in the Carmel neighborhood of Haifa that was hit by a “missile” yesterday will be demolished.
The municipality decided to demolish the building because it might collapse and damage a nearby structure.
Yesterday, Hezbollah fired hundreds of rockets and drones at Israel in one of the largest barrages of the war.
Meanwhile, The Israeli army has claimed it struck a Hezbollah command centre in the downtown Beirut neighborhood of Basta in a deadly air raid over the weekend.
“The (Israeli military) struck a Hezbollah command centre,” the army told media regarding the strike that the Lebanese Health Ministry said killed 26 people and wounded 67 on Saturday.
The predawn attack was unleashed without any warning, Lebanon’s National News Agency reported.
Israel does not always issue warnings before it carries out attacks in both Lebanon and Gaza but often does mere minutes before attacking. Many of these orders have come in the middle of the night when residents are sleeping, or the instructions have been misleading.
However, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bou Habib, speaking at a conference in Rome, has called on all sides to respect the safety of UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) troops.
On Friday, four Italian soldiers with the UN peacekeeping mission sustained wounds when two rockets hit a UNIFIL base in Chamaa village.
Since Israel launched its ground offensive in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL soldiers have faced several attacks.
Israel’s far-right national security minister says, “An agreement with Lebanon is a big mistake,” following reports in Israeli and US media that a deal to stop the war between Hezbollah and Israel is closer than ever.
“A historic missed opportunity to eradicate Hezbollah. I understand all the constraints and reasons, and it is still a grave mistake. … Precisely now, when Hezbollah is beaten and longs for a cease-fire, it is forbidden to stop,” he wrote in a post on X.
“As I warned before in Gaza, I warn now as well, Mr. Prime Minister, it is not too late to stop this agreement! We must continue until the absolute victory!” he added.
