Thousands in overcrowded Gaza shelters amid Israeli shelling

06-11-2025

GAZA STRIP: Constant Israeli artillery shelling witnessed in southern Gaza while farms and houses being destroyed in eastern parts of Gaza City, report our colleagues on the ground.

There have been heartwarming scenes in Gaza as five Palestinian prisoners released by Israel as part of the ceasefire with Hamas reunited with their families.

Nearly 75,000 displaced Palestinians sheltering in UNRWA-run buildings, the UN agency says, adding that many of those structures are “damaged and overcrowded”.

The former most senior lawyer of the Israeli military has been arrested over a leaked video showing Israeli soldiers brutally assaulting a Palestinian prisoner.

Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 68,858 people and wounded 170,664 since October 2023. A total of 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks, and about 200 were taken captive.

Palestinian detainee shown in alleged rape video returned to Gaza

The Palestinian detainee shown in an alleged rape video leaked to the Israeli outlet Channel 12 last year has been returned to Gaza, the media is reporting, citing a document from the military prosecutor’s office.

The fallout from the leak has led to the resignation and arrest of the Israeli army’s top lawyer, Yifat Tomer-Yerushalmi, on suspicion of allowing the clip to become public.

She is currently under investigation, and the army is preparing her replacement.

Gaza death toll from Israeli attacks reaches 240 since ceasefire began

The bodies of four Palestinians have been brought to hospitals across Gaza over the past 24 hours, including one recovered from beneath rubble, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.

Since the ceasefire took effect on October 10, 2025, Israeli attacks have killed a total of 240 people and wounded 607, the ministry said.

Israel’s army confirms arrests in West Bank’s Nablus

The Israeli military has released footage of its soldiers raiding Nablus in the occupied West Bank, claiming without evidence that two simultaneous operations led to the arrests of “Hamas operatives”.

Israeli soldiers arrested the two in the Balata camp and in the Masaken al-Shabiya village, the army said in a short statement. Hamas has not commented.

As we reported earlier, Palestinian media said Israeli forces arrested at least eight Palestinians during their latest raid on Nablus, including five men in the town of Beit Furik.

Israeli settlers have also attacked Palestinian farmers in several villages and towns in the Nablus area today, including in Beit Dajan. The footage below shows another settler incursion in Salfit that we reported on earlier.

They found one of the Israeli captives’ bodies after three days of relentless digging and searching.

We also highlighted the fact that the armed wing of Hamas, the Qassam Brigades, crossed the yellow line without any weapons to help retrieve those bodies.

They are going to hand the body over to the Red Cross, who will hand it over to the Israeli authorities in the next couple of minutes.

Seven bodies are left, and there are a lot of retrieval efforts underway.

The Palestinians themselves are waiting for the seven bodies to be handed over because they want to see the ceasefire on the ground.

Israelis from illegal settlements have attacked a number of Israeli solidarity activists in the Wadi Abbas area, located between Deir Istiya and Qarawat Bani Hassan, west of Salfit, the Wafa news agency is reporting.

The report added that armed settlers “attacked the activists, assaulting them and causing injuries, and threatened to shoot them”. (Int’l News Desk)
