Revanth Reddy alleged that it was the BRS that helped the BJP increase its vote share in the Lok Sabha elections.
Hyderabad, Feb 5 (PMI): Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday announced that the state government will table legislation to curb hate speech during the upcoming Assembly session, asserting that stringent laws are necessary to maintain peace and social harmony.
Addressing a programme organised by the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister said the Congress party had played a crucial role in India’s freedom struggle and praised the Jamiat for its contribution to the nation’s development. He also challenged Union Home Minister and BJP leader Amit Shah to come to power in Telangana.
Revanth Reddy alleged that the main Opposition party, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), had indirectly helped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) increase its vote share in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
Stating that the Congress government in Telangana was formed with the support of minorities, the Chief Minister said his government was prepared to submit data on the Muslim population to the Supreme Court, if required, in connection with the pending case on four per cent reservation for Muslims. He noted that the data had already been collected during the caste census conducted last year and dared Amit Shah to cancel the minority quota.
The Chief Minister recalled that former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had introduced four per cent reservations for minorities in the state. “We will ensure that the four per cent reservation for minorities is implemented strictly. Many people secured jobs due to the reservations provided by the Congress government,” he said, while urging minorities to prioritise education.
Revanth Reddy also highlighted that the Congress party has provided political opportunities to several minority leaders at both the national and state levels. He cited leaders such as Salman Khurshid and Ahmed Patel as examples and said minority leaders like Azharuddin and Shabbir Ali were given MLA tickets. He added that minorities were also appointed to eight corporate posts. “Even though Azharuddin lost the election, he was later given an opportunity as an MLC and made a minister,” the Chief Minister said.
Appealing to minorities to support Muslim candidates in the upcoming municipal elections, Revanth Reddy stressed the need for unity and collective efforts for national development. He said peace and law, and order were essential to attract investments and added that no individual could remain in power forever. “The country cannot develop because of one person alone,” he said.(pressmediaofindia.com)
