Telangana High Court declines to halt Sarpanch elections

Hyderabad’- 28 Nov (PMI NEWS) The Telangana High Court has refused to stay the upcoming Sarpanch (Panchayat) elections, making it clear that the electoral process cannot be stopped at this stage. During the hearing, counsel for the Election Commission argued that once an election notification is issued, the courts should avoid interfering in the process.

Addressing concerns raised by the petitioner regarding the lack of sub-category reservations, the court questioned the basis of the plea. It reiterated its earlier stance on the government’s recent order providing 42 percent reservations, stating that the elections must go forward as scheduled.

The hearing also examined the implications of Government Order (G.O.) 46 on reservation policies for the forthcoming Panchayat elections. The court stressed the urgency of conducting the elections without further delay, even as discussions on reservation issues continue. (pressmediaofindia.com)
