The announcement was made by Director General of Police, Sri B. Shivadhar Reddy, IPS, in an official press release. He stated that Police Commemoration Day will be observed across Telangana from 21st to 31st October 2025, culminating on National Unity Day, in honor of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, whose birth anniversary is celebrated on 31st October. On the first day, events will be held at all district police offices, with similar activities continuing at police station levels throughout the state.
Significance of Police Commemoration Day
The day commemorates the valor of ten CRPF jawans who, under the leadership of Sub-Inspector Karam Singh, fought bravely against a Chinese ambush at Hot Springs, Ladakh, in 1959, sacrificing their lives for the nation. Since then, the day has been observed annually to honor the courage and dedication of all police personnel who have lost their lives in the line of duty. This year, 191 police personnel across India have died while serving the nation, including five officers from Telangana.
