Hyderabad30 Nov/2024(PMI) The Task Forcee(West) team along with Begumpet Police caught a couple from Assam on charges of drug peddling at Begumpet here on Saturday. Officials seized about 254 grams of Amphetamine drug worth Rs 20 lakh from them. A total of 11 drug consumers were also detained.
The arrested persons are Atif Aslam Khan (34) and his wife Subhani Begum (22), residents of Prakash Nagar in Begumpet, and natives of Silchar in Assam.
According to the police, Atif who earlier owned a mobile phone SIM cards shop in Assam took to drug peddling as his income seemed meager to fund his family expenses. Subsequently, he came into contact with a person named Pronay Das, a drug peddler from Assam and procured the psychotropic substance from him.
“The drug was smuggled into Hyderabad in trains and sold to customers, mostly known to him at a higher rate. For traveling across the city, Atif bought a used scooter and was transporting drugs in it,” said a Task Force official.
Based on a tip-off, the Task Force nabbed the couple and seized the drug, apart from detaining 11 drug consumers.
