Hyderabad : Telangana State BJP president K Laxman today demanded that the State government order a judicial probe into the distribution of low-quality of saris to women and also tender an apology.
Speaking to mediapersons at the party office here, Laxman alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had insulted the women by distributing sarees costing nearly Rs 50. “The sarees were brought from Surat at Rs 200 per kg and distributed them to women. This is nothing but encouraging the contractors,” he said.
The BJP leader said the government should extend subsidies to powerloom workers instead of distributing free sarees and wasting public money. He wanted to know the number of sarees purchased from State weavers and the number of weavers who got benefited from the sarees distribution program. He also wondered why the government placed orders only with Sircilla weavers and why not Gadwal, Narayanpet and Pochampally weavers.
