Hyderabad, Nov.26 (PMI): Minister for IT and Industries D Sridhar Babu inaugurated the Indo-Belgian Lifesciences conference at Avasa Hotel here on Tuesday.
In his keynote address, Sridhar Babu emphasized the transformative potential of the partnership between India and Belgium in life sciences, highlighting Hyderabad as the epicenter of innovation and collaboration.
“While India and Belgium are individually strong in life sciences, it is in the fusion of our expertise that the true potential lies. Hyderabad, as India’s life sciences capital, with its world-class infrastructure, thriving startup ecosystem, and supportive government policies, provides the ideal environment for this collaboration,” the Minister said.
He further lauded Telangana’s leadership in vaccine production, generics, and biosimilars, and invited Belgium’s life sciences community to explore synergies.
“Together, we can harness our collective strengths to address global health challenges and make life-saving innovations accessible and affordable to all,” he added, underscoring the role of Hyderabad as a catalyst for global healthcare innovation.
Themed “Strengthening the Indo-Belgian Life Sciences Corridor: Unlocking the Future of Healthcare Together,” the conference brought together key dignitaries and industry leaders. Notable attendees included H.E. Didier Vanderhasselt, Ambassador of Belgium to India; Jeroen Cooreman, Director General for Bilateral Affairs; and G.V. Prasad, Honorary Consul of Belgium and Co-Chairman & Managing Director of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd.
Eminent speakers such as Dr. Peter Piot, Professor of Global Health, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine; Dr. Ajit Shetty, Chairman, Flemish Institute of Biotechnology; Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chairperson of MS Swaminathan Research Foundation and Sudarshan Jain, Secretary General of Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance, contributed to thought-provoking discussions on the future of healthcare innovation.
The event featured dynamic panel discussions on topics, including vaccine development, supply chain security Medical devices, innovation Biotech innovation, start-up venture capital, and start-up funding.
Highlighting the complementary strengths of India and Belgium, the conference showcased Belgium’s excellence in R&D, biotech innovation, and medical devices alongside Telangana’s manufacturing prowess and global outreach.
Minister Sridhar Babu also extended a warm invitation to the global life sciences community for BioAsia 2025, the 22nd edition of the world’s premier life sciences and healthcare event, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad from February 24 to 26, 2025.
