Hyderabad, October 18 (Zoya Fatima-PMI): The government administration is working hard to conduct the socio-economic survey in the state. In the background of the government’s order to complete the survey within 60 days, the discussions on the design of the format are continuing. The chief secretary of the finance department and senior officials of the finance and planning department are holding lengthy discussions with the CS on the survey procedures. Sources in the finance and planning department revealed that the format for the survey will be ready in two or three days. Meanwhile, they said that they are also considering the possibility of putting 50 questions in the survey paper to get the complete details of the family along with the bank account number of the house owner.
A multi-faceted survey
It is known that CS Shantikumari had issued an order on 14th of this month directing to go to every house in the state and conduct a survey on social, economic, educational, employment and political sectors. The Planning Department has been appointed as the nodal department for conducting the survey. However, with the results of this survey, there is a possibility that the decision of allotment of reservation in local body elections will come to a conclusion.
Enumerators are the key..
Selection of enumerators has become crucial in social survey. In the past, teachers served for census. It is reported that there was a discussion to hire Anganwadi teachers or the unemployed as enumerators for the latest survey. However, experienced persons are expected to be employed as enumerators as vital matters related to families have to be obtained. While the staff of Finance and Planning Department has experience in conducting many surveys, currently the department is suffering from shortage of staff. Sources in the department said that there are only 1,180 people and proposals for 200 more personnel (cadre strength) were sent 10 months ago and the file is pending in the CM’s file.
Staff training
Once the enumerators are selected, they will have to be trained on the survey. In the new state of Telangana, the then CM K Chandrasekhar Rao himself called upon the people to cooperate in a comprehensive family survey. As everyone went to their homes, the survey was completed in one day. However, there are many challenges ahead. That is why the authorities are thoroughly discussing all the issues.(PMINEWS)
