Shia Civil Council Urges President’s Intervention in Telangana MLC Nomination Issue

The Council urged the President to ensure:

Immediate compliance by the Governor and the State Government with the Supreme Court and High Court orders.

Constitutional action against those responsible for deliberate inaction, if required.

Upholding the sanctity and enforceability of judicial orders without exception.

Hyderabad, Sept. 19(PMI) The Shia Civil Council for Social Justice has appealed to the Hon’ble President of India, highlighting what it termed as “serious constitutional impropriety” on the part of the Governor of Telangana and the State Government for failing to act on court-directed nomination of a Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) under the Governor’s quota.

In a representation addressed to the President, the Council pointed out that despite clear and binding directions from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and the Hon’ble High Court of Telangana, no action has been taken by the Governor and the State Government.

The Council noted that the Supreme Court, in W.P. No. 451 of 2025 (order dated May 26, 2025), and the High Court of Telangana in W.P. No. 4610 of 2024 and W.P. No. 30028 of 2024, had directed the competent authorities to act upon the nomination under Article 171(5) of the Constitution of India. However, even after several months, compliance has not been ensured. Another case, W.P. No. 26129 of 2025, is listed for final orders on September 24, 2025.

Terming the inaction as a blow to judicial authority and the rule of law, the Council stated that such conduct “erodes public trust and undermines the spirit of federalism and democracy.”

The representation urged the President to intervene in his capacity as the constitutional head of the Republic, and to ensure immediate compliance with the court’s directives. It also sought consideration of constitutional action against those responsible for the delay, stressing the need to uphold the sanctity of judicial orders.

The Council expressed faith in the constitutional mechanisms of the country and appealed for a timely resolution “in the interest of justice, democracy, and constitutional governance.”(pressmediaofindia.com)
