SHE Teams Act on 98 Complaints in December; 13 Offenders Caught Red-Handed’Dr. Lavanya NJP, IPS,

SHE Teams, working under the supervision of Smt. Dr. Lavanya NJP, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women Safety Wing, continue their dedicated efforts to ensure the safety, security, and dignity of women and girls across Hyderabad city.

Hyderabad, January 19, 2026: (PMI) SHE Teams, working under the supervision of Smt. Dr. Lavanya NJP, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Women Safety Wing, continued their proactive efforts to ensure the safety and dignity of women and girls across Hyderabad city.

During the month of December, SHE Teams received a total of 98 petitions through WhatsApp, direct petitions, and social media platforms. Of these, 29 petitions were referred to the concerned police stations. Fourteen cases were registered as FIRs, while 15 petitions are under further legal scrutiny at police stations.

As part of continuous field surveillance, decoy operations, and technical monitoring, SHE Teams apprehended 13 offenders red-handed, including 11 adults and two minors. Seven offenders were warned and let off after proper counselling in the presence of their family members. Nine cases were booked as petty cases for serious misconduct.

Legal action during the month resulted in multiple convictions, including three offenders sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment with fine, one to four days’ imprisonment with fine, one to two days’ imprisonment, and three offenders convicted with fine only.

Highlighting some notable cases, police said an engineering student complained that a Rapido bike rider saved her phone number after dropping her off at home and later harassed her with repeated calls and abusive messages. SHE Teams promptly apprehended the accused and booked a petty case under Section 292 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 70(c) of the City Police Act. The accused was convicted by the X Special Judicial Magistrate, Nampally, and sentenced to seven days’ simple imprisonment with a fine of ₹250.

In another case, a degree student reported that her neighbour, identified as T. Soul Raju (45), was stalking her and attempted to forcibly pull her onto his bike. The accused was apprehended and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment with a fine of ₹500.

In a cyber harassment case, SHE Teams acted on a complaint against Y. Sai Trinath (28), who allegedly blackmailed a woman using her private photos and videos after developing a relationship through Instagram. He was convicted and sentenced to seven days’ imprisonment with a fine of ₹500.

Similarly, a 35-year-old man, K. Sumanth Sai Kumar, was arrested for sending abusive messages through social media and was sentenced to four days’ imprisonment with a fine of ₹250.

Apart from enforcement, SHE Teams focused extensively on awareness and prevention. During December, they conducted 188 awareness programmes in schools, colleges, and public places, carried out 1,045 observation drives in crowded and sensitive areas, and organised 234 audio-visual vehicle awareness programmes across the city.

Police also cautioned the public against fake online profiles, oversharing personal information, and urged citizens to secure their social media accounts with strong passwords and two-factor authentication. Women facing harassment were encouraged to come forward and lodge complaints without fear, assuring confidentiality and swift action.
