Sena (UBT) Targets BJP Over AIMIM, Congress Tie-Ups in Maharashtra

Mumbai’Jan 9 (PMI) Amid ongoing political activity ahead of elections to 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) has criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing it of compromising its ideological position in pursuit of power.

In an editorial published in its party mouthpiece Saamana, the Shiv Sena (UBT) alleged that the BJP has entered into local-level alliances with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) and the Congress, calling the moves a “shameful display of hypocrisy.”

The editorial claimed that the BJP’s priority has shifted to remaining in power at any cost and alleged that its commitment to Hindutva is driven by political convenience rather than ideology. It further alleged that the BJP has, in the past, tactically used AIMIM to split opposition votes in states such as Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Maharashtra.

Referring to recent municipal council developments, the Shiv Sena (UBT) claimed that the BJP entered into an alliance with AIMIM in the Akot Municipal Council and collaborated with the Congress in the Ambernath Municipal Council to counter the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.

According to the editorial, following public criticism, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attempted to distance the party from these alliances and assured action against those responsible. However, the Sena (UBT) claimed that the damage to the BJP’s image had already been done.

The editorial also criticised the BJP for allegedly absorbing leaders from rival parties, including the Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), and Shiv Sena. It claimed that a significant number of BJP legislators and local representatives are former members of these parties, accusing the BJP of abandoning its earlier slogan of “Congress-mukt Bharat.”

The Shiv Sena (UBT) concluded that the BJP’s political approach has become focused solely on electoral success, alleging that the party is willing to align with any group or individual to secure victory. (pressmediaofindia.com)
