Hyderabad, April 17 (PMI): South Central Railway General Manager Arun Kumar Jain today said the Zone achieved best-ever performance in both freight and passenger segment. He also said the SCR also registered best-ever infrastructure performance in terms of both Track additions as well Electrification done in a financial year.
Addressing media persons at Rail Nilayam today, Arun Kumar Jain said the Zone has continued to deliver exceptional performance in diverse segments in its spheres of working by registering best-ever performance since its inception. Importantly, not only did the Zone achieve record infrastructure additions, but also proactive initiatives have contributed to SCR earning best-ever revenue on both passenger as well as freight segment.
Some of the hallmark achievements of the Zone are: Backed by proactive planning and dedicated efforts by Team SCR on all segments of its operation, the Zone achieved its best-ever earnings in 2022-23 by recording Rs. 18,973.14 cr. in Originating Revenue compared to its best-ever earning of Rs 15,708.88 cr in 2018-19. In 2021-22, the zone earned Rs 14,266 crs. Importantly, the operating ratio of the Zone has also improved from 98.25% in 2021-22 to 88.23% in 2022-23. Arun Kumar Jain said the Zone took proactive initiatives to address the needs of the freight customers with initiatives like development of Goods shed, implementation of both Tariff and Non-Tariff incentive measures, etc which resulted in new traffic being attracted towards Railways. This has in turn contributed towards SCR achieving best-ever Originating freight loading and revenue of 131.854 Million Tonnes and Rs 13,051.10 crore, respectively. The previous best performance was achieved in 2018-19 wherein Originating freight loading and revenue were 122.5 MTs and Rs 10,954.69 cr respectively.
He said on passenger front, SCR was the first to re-introduce 100% Mail Express Trains on its jurisdiction. This combined with continuous introduction of special trains, temporary as well permanent augmentation of coaches in trains having demand and also attaching extra coaches on a day-to-day basis, wherever feasible have all contributed to SCR achieving its best-ever Originating Passenger Revenue of Rs 5,140.70 crore in 2022-23 (against the previous best of Rs. 4089.78 Core in 2018-19). In terms of passengers, 255.59 million originating passengers travelled from SCR in 2022-23 compared to 127.4 millions in 2021-22.
In terms of track addition, proper planning and speedy implementation has resulted in the Zone adding best-ever track addition to its rail network. A record 384.42 kms were added during 2022-23 compared to the previous best of 344 kms in 2021-22. While 50.015 kms of new lines were added during FY 2022-23, 151.486 kms of double line and 182.915 kms of third lines were added to the rail network.
He said electrification on the Zone witnessed never before seen speedy execution with a record 1,016.9 Rkms being electrified in SCR during 2022-23. This is not only the highest electrification achieved by the Zone in any financial year but also the highest achieved by any Zone during the last financial year across Indian Railways. Further, a record 1,743.42 Rkms of rail track on the Zone were upgraded to handle trains upto a maximum speed of 130 kmph. This is the highest achieved by any Zone in the last financial year across Indian Railways. To enhance capacity as well as safety of its train operation, SCR also commissioned 66 Electronic Interlocking systems during the last financial year which is the highest in the history of the Zone.
The achievement of the Zone in both Passenger and Freight segments were supported by workshops which gave best-ever POH Out turn in the last financial year. While Lallaguda and Tirupati Workshops achieved POH out turn of 3,046 coaches, the Rayanapadu Workshop have an POH Out turn of 6,300 wagons during 2022-23. The best ever out turn for coaches was in 2019-20 with 2,966 coaches, while for that of wagons had been 6,018 wagons in 2018-19. He said the Zone continues to be a pioneer in Material Management across Indian railways. Continuing the same, SCR achieved scrap sales of Rs. 391 crs in 2022-23, which is the best-ever performance against the previous best of Rs. 352.83 cr in 2014-15.
