Hyderabad, May 26, 2025(Farheen Fatima-PMI) Telangana has witnessed a concerning increase in incidents of violence and harassment against women between January and May 2025. According to reports from the police and the Women’s Safety Wing, women have faced various forms of abuse during this period, including harassment, domestic violence, cybercrime, stalking, and both physical and emotional abuse.
In response to this, SHE Teams, under the Women Safety Wing, have taken several proactive measures to protect women and curb such crimes. These initiatives have included not only prompt law enforcement action but also rehabilitation efforts such as counselling sessions aimed at behavioral correction of offenders.
In one recent initiative, 289 individuals apprehended between January and April 2025 for harassing women—271 adults and 18 minors—participated in a structured counselling session. This session was held in collaboration with the NGO Manojagruthi, which provided a team of professional psychiatrists to educate the participants on legal awareness, respectful behavior, and emotional regulation.
Dr. Lavanya NJP, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Women Safety Wing, Hyderabad, addressed the attendees during the session. She emphasized the harmful impact of substance abuse, such as alcohol, drugs, and smoking, on decision-making and self-control. She also warned about the dangers of bad company and peer pressure, advising attendees to choose their friends wisely. Highlighting the concept of delayed gratification, Dr. Lavanya narrated a short story to illustrate how self-discipline and patience can lead to greater success and meaningful life choices.
Several of the participants voluntarily shared their remorse during the session. They expressed regret over their actions and acknowledged the pain their behavior caused to their families and friends. Many thanks, SHE Teams, for offering them an opportunity to reflect and reform.
This initiative reflects SHE Teams’ commitment not only to enforcing the law but also to promoting awareness, rehabilitation, and community education, with the ultimate goal of creating a safer and more respectful environment for women in Telangana.
