Hyderabad’May 23 (Shoukat-PMI)The Director General of Police (DGP), Telangana, Dr. Jitendar, IPS, conducted a review meeting on 23rd May 2025 to assess the progress and effectiveness of the New Criminal Laws (NCL) implementation across the state. These laws have been in effect since 1st July 2024 in Telangana.
Key Initiatives at the Time of Rollout:
To ensure a smooth transition to the NCL framework, a comprehensive State Transition Management Plan was executed with the following measures:

Digest of 47 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was published for uniform understanding and enforcement.

A centralized repository of critical publications from NCRB and other states was created.

The CID-Ready Reckoner and Video SOPs for procedures under BNSS (Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita) were distributed.
-
Investigation Support Cell was upgraded with cloud telephony and an FAQ repository to assist field officers.
Implementation Status and Statistics:

Total BNS Cases Registered (as of 22nd May 2025): 1,37,644 cases

Cases under Major/Modified Sections: 607 cases, including:

BNS 152 – Endangering the sovereignty, unity, and integrity of India

BNS 111 – Organized Crime

BNS 117(3) – Grievous hurt (permanent disability/persistent vegetative state)

Other focus areas: Gender neutrality, Community service, Fake news, Mandatory minimum sentencing, and Graded fines for damage to public property.

Zero FIRs Registered: 1,251
Operational Directives by the DGP:

Emphasis on timely charge-sheet filing within 60 and 90 days as mandated by BNSS.

Directed officers to ensure strict compliance with legal timelines.

Urged the prosecution team to work on enhancing the conviction rate.

Shikha Goel, IPS, DG CID and convener of the NCL Implementation Committee, presented the implementation status and outlined ongoing initiatives to further strengthen the adoption of the new laws.
