Hyderabad, Aug.9 (PMI): The Union Government is introducing ‘One Nation-One Ration Card’ to benefit poor people, who can avail ration from anywhere in the country. On a pilot project basis, the Centre implemented the new project in four States.
On Friday, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & PDS Ramvilas Paswan launched the ‘One Nation – One Ration Card’ scheme at Ration Shop No. 167448 situated in New MLA Quarters, Adarsh Nagar, here through online from Delhi. One Eashwar Rao from Rajahmundry in East Godavari district bearing Ration Card No WAP0481025B0472 is working as a watchman in an Apartment situated at Punjagutta, availed PDS Rice through National Portability in the presence of Commissioner for Civil Supplies Akun Sabharwal.
Union Minister Ramvilas Paswan asked Commissioner of Civil Supplies Akun Sabharwal from when the portability was implemented in the Telangana State. He also asked about the quality of rice and whether sufficient rice was coming from the FCI for PDS in the State. The Commissioner replied that Portability was being implemented in Telangana State from April 1 last year and till now over two crore beneficiaries have been taking ration using portability.
Sabharwal also said the State has sufficient stocks of Rice for Public Distribution System. It was supplying Boiled Rice to Kerala and Tamil Nadu through FCI. Telangana Civil Supplies Department was not compromised on the quality of Rice for PDS and established a special quality control wing. The Commissioner said with the implementation of ‘One Nation One Ration Card’, the people of two Telugu States can take their ration from anywhere in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. With the support the NIC, details of the beneficiaries are linked to EPoS, now Andhra people can avail ration without again linking of biometric or IRIS.
As per National Food Security Act (NFSA), every beneficiary will get 5kg rice at Rs 3 per kg and wheat at Rs 2 per kg. In Telangana State, some 2.82 crore beneficiaries were benefited with Ration Anywhere (Portability) as they can get their ration from any ration shop, which was introduced by Civil Supplies Department on April 1, 2018. Ration from Anywhere (Portability) gained huge success as the number of beneficiaries using this facility was growing constantly. Till now, more than 2.10 crore Portability transactions are recorded.
Eashwar Rao of Rajahmundry was working in Punjagutta since the last 15 years and has a ration card no WAP0481025B0472 from 20 years. Every two or three months, he used to go to his native village to get ration commodities. Every time he had to go on leave and spend Rs 2000 to 3000 for travel. With the implementation of National Portability, now he can get his ration commodities here in Hyderabad only and can save traveling expenses as well as time. (PMI)
