Hyderabad, Sept.15 (PMI): The Telangana BJP on Monday slammed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi for their double standards and hypocrisy over the India–Pakistan cricket match in the Asia Cup.
The party questioned whether Rahul Gandhi and Asaduddin Owaisi, who had earlier demanded that India boycott the match, are now mourning Pakistan’s humiliating seven-wicket loss to Team India.
State BJP chief spokesperson and media In-charge N.V. Subash said it was ironic that the same Rahul Gandhi and his INDI alliance partners, who once demanded proof of India’s airstrikes and questioned the downing of Pakistani fighter jets in Operation Sindoor after the Pahalgam terror attack, have suddenly fallen silent.
“Why have they gone mute now? Aren’t these the same leaders who parroted Pakistan’s lies and even echoed Donald Trump’s falsehoods while ridiculing our armed forces?” Subash asked.
The BJP reminded people that this is not the first time the Congress and its allies have cast doubts on the bravery of Indian soldiers. “From Pulwama to surgical strikes, the Opposition has repeatedly tried to undermine our forces—something unheard of in Congress’s six decades of rule at the Centre,” Subash added.
Hailing Team India’s emphatic victory, Subash quoted skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who said the team played to avenge Pakistan-sponsored terrorism that claimed innocent lives in Pahalgam. “This win is not just a sporting triumph—it is a tribute to the victims of terrorism and to the valour of our armed forces,” Subash declared. He also lauded the Indian team’s firm refusal to shake hands with their rivals before and after the match—a rare sight in the sporting world.
Clarifying on the BCCI’s decision to play the match, Subash said it was a conscious call taken under ICC rules, as unilateral boycotts of multilateral events can invite suspension of membership. “The Opposition must stop looking at every decision only through the prism of money for which the BCCI acted with prudence’’, he stated.
The State BJP asserted that the Indian Opposition has stooped to such levels of irrelevance that it now finds itself aligned more with Pakistan’s narrative than with the aspirations of Indians. “How long will Rahul Gandhi and Owaisi continue this charade? The people of India can see through their anti-national rhetoric and their attempts to undermine India’s pride,” Subash added. (PMI)
