Rahul Gandhi Makes ‘Imarti’ at a Sweet Shop During Diwali

Shared video of his visit to the famous sweet shop ‘Ghantewala’ on his social media handle ‘X’

New Delhi Oct 20 (PMI) On the occasion of the Diwali festival, when people traditionally share sweets with one another, Rahul Gandhi visited a historic sweet shop to try his hand at making sweets. The shop is the famous ‘Ghantewala’ in Old Delhi. Upon arriving there, the Congress MP made ‘Imarti’ (a sweet similar to Jalebi but slightly different) and ‘Besan ke Ladoo’ (gram flour sweet balls) with his own hands.

Rahul Gandhi shared the video of his visit to the ‘Ghantewala’ sweet shop on his social media handle ‘X’, in which he is seen interacting with the shop owner and the sweet makers.

He also meets with some other people present at the shop and learns how the sweets are made. He asks the halwai (sweet maker) about the process of making the sweets and then begins making Imarti himself in a large kadhai (wok).

In a very cheerful environment, the shop owner tells Rahul Gandhi that sweets from this shop had been served to his grandfather, grandmother, father, and sister — and now, they pray that they will get the chance to serve their sweets at Rahul Gandhi’s wedding as well.

Along with sharing this video, Rahul Gandhi wrote in his post:
“Tried my hand at making Imarti and Besan ke Ladoo at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi. The sweetness of this centuries-old renowned shop is still the same — pure, traditional, and heart-touching.”
He further wrote:
“The real sweetness of Diwali isn’t just on the plate, but also in our relationships and in society. You all tell me — how are you celebrating your Diwali, and what are you doing to make it special?”(pressmediaofindia.com)
