Hyderabad: Textiles Minister KT Rama Rao today directed that the Bathukamma sarees distribution should be completed in two days without any interruptions.
The minister held a review meeting on the floral festival and distribution of the sarees among the women. The meeting assumes importance as there were some incidents of burning the sarees citing poor quality and low-cost as the Opposition parties made allegations of irregularities and blamed the government.
The minister sought to know about the details like stocks, distribution and arrangements made to stop repetition of such untoward incidents. KTR asked Handlooms Director Shailaja Ramayyar to conduct a video conference and ensure that the program will continue as per plan with no room for disturbances. He also said the District Collectors should take all steps to prevent stage-managed protests and incidents of burning sarees engineered by the Opposition parties to tarnish the government’s image.
