Hyderabad, Jan.4 (PMI): Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed the irrigation officials to collaborate with IIT Hyderabad in order to generate a report on the effects of the Polavaram project construction within Telangana State.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with top officials of Irrigation department here on Saturday. Minister for Irrigation N Uttam Kumar Reddy and Government Advisor (Irrigation) Adityanath Das were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy asked the officials to prepare a comprehensive report within a month and directed that a special officer should be appointed to coordinate with the IIT Hyderabad team.
He also ordered for a comprehensive study on the threat of construction of the Polavaram project on the famous Bhadrachalam temple. The officials briefed the Chief Minister that the temple town of Bhadrachalam was submerged due to flood of 27 lakh cusecs of water in 2022.
Irrigation officials brought to the attention of Revanth Reddy about the construction of Godavari Banakacharla project by Andhra Pradesh government. The officials further informed that the AP government gave a PowerPoint presentation on this project recently and the project is being taken up by using flood waters without any permission.
Revanth Reddy instructed the officials to lodge the Telangana government’s objections with AP government Chief Secretary against the project.
The Chief Minister also asked the irrigation officials to write letters to the Godavari River Management Board as well as the Union Ministry of Jal Shakti, if necessary, to protect the interests of the Telangana State. (PMI)
