Hyderabad, Sept 2 (Report by Hussain Ali, Senior Journalist ): The historic Chup Tazia procession of the Deccan was taken out yesterday evening, 8th Rabi-ul-Awwal (September 1), at 4:30 pm after the Majlis by Grouh e Jaffari (Agha Abbasi). Passing through its traditional routes, the procession reached Alawa Sartouq before Maghrib and concluded with the Majlis-e-Pursa. Thus concluding the final gathering of the two-month-and-eight-days-long mourning period for the martyrs of Karbala before the evening call to prayer. The procession, organized under the supervision of Syed Najaf Ali Shoukat, President of Markazi Anjuman Matami Grouhaan, and members of its executive committee, witnessed participation from thousands of mourners. On the occasion of the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hasan al-Askari (a.s), a symbolic Zarih Mubarak accompanied the procession. However, when the Zarih was being brought inside, a few individuals reportedly caused disruption, suspected to be a deliberate act, which will be brought to the notice of law enforcement authorities after going through the video recordings.
Shia community questions the role of the police officials present at the occasion of the disruption inside Alawa Sartaouq. Why have they not taken any suo-moto action in spite of having a video recording of it by their official and having prior knowledge that the same incident happened in 2023 and cases were booked against the trouble makers and the cases are still running in the court. “When the Sub-Inspector of police accompanying the Zarih Mubarak was forcefully stopped and pushed by one Abid Ali Arshad and his associates, thus interfering in the performance of the duty by a Government official.
The Shia Community urges the Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, to take Suo Moto action by looking into the video recording and inputs from the officials and book cases against the trouble makers to maintain the sanctity of the procession and to avoid such incidents in the future.
Alongside this incident, a large section of the Shia community strongly criticized the praise of political parties and leaders at Alawa Sartouq, calling it an act of “flattery.” Many expressed anger that mourning gatherings were being turned into political arenas. They also questioned the silence of a Majlis MLC and termed the remarks of BJP leader Farasat Ali Baqri as an attempt to please his political masters.
Particular outrage was directed at Mujtaba Mousavi of the self-styled “Markaz,” who, instead of offering condolences to Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s) on the martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Askari (a.s), chose to lavish praise on political leaders even before the Majlis began. Community members, especially the youth, said such praise could have been made after the Majlis, but preferring political appeasement over the grief of Ahlul Bayt (a.s) was inappropriate and condemnable.
Close associates of Majlis President Asaduddin Owaisi clarified that he is deeply devoted to the Ahlul Bayt (a.s) and has always emphasized Muslim unity during election campaigns. They argued that Owaisi himself would never approve such self-serving praise in an environment of mourning, and that some individuals are misusing such occasions to project themselves as community representatives.
Meanwhile, BJP’s Farasat Baqri also used the platform, which was criticized as inappropriate, though his remarks came after the conclusion of mourning rituals when the red flag had already been raised at Alawa Sartouq. Critics said Mujtaba Mousavi, too, could have done the same later, but instead, he took advantage of the gathering and prioritized praising political leaders over offering condolences to Imam-e-Zamana (a.t.f.s), which has drawn widespread condemnation.
It is also noteworthy that the so-called “Markaz” led by Mujtaba Mousavi has no formal connection with the original Central Markazi Anjuman Matami Grouhaan, which organizes the Arbaeen and Chup Tazia processions. The genuine Markaz’s dedicated members have consistently rejected external pressures, while Mousavi is accused of running a parallel body with the support of certain alleged anti-social elements.
