Police refund Rs 35 lakh to complainants

Hyderabad, Dec.7 (PMI): The City Cyber Crime Unit refunded Rs 35,00,000/- in two cases. In Crime No 2214/2024, a complaint was received from a housewife stating some fraudsters deceived her by falsely implicating her in illegal activities and money laundering. She stated that the fraudsters convinced her to transfer ₹1,00,000 (Rupees one lakh only) to bank accounts provided by them.

In response, the Cyber Crime Unit, Hyderabad, registered a case under Cr. No. 2214/2024, U/Sec 66(C), 66(D) of the IT Act, and U/Sec 308(2), 318(4), 319(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2) of the BNS, and investigated. Inspector K. Prasad Rao, along with SI Uma, PC D. Shekar, and PC R. Murali Krishna, took proactive steps, including sending notices to the bank officials and following up to freeze the fraudulent amount. They also guided the complainant in filing a petition in court for the refund of the funds held in the fraudulent accounts. As a result, ₹1, 00,000/- was refunded to the complainant’s bank account.

In another case Cr. No. 2467/2024, a complaint was received from a 76-year-old retired male from Hyderabad. Fraudsters deceived him by falsely implicating him in money laundering and digital arrest. They managed to convince him to transfer Rs 84 lakh to bank accounts provided by them. The Cyber Crime Unit registered a case under Cr. No. 2467/2024, U/Sec 66(C), 66(D) of the IT Act, and U/Sec 308(2), 318(4), 319(2), 336(3), 338, 340(2) of the BNS, and investigated into.

Inspector P. Pramod Kumar, along with SI Ch. Venkatadri, PC Prabhu, and PC Srinivas, worked diligently to issue notices to the bank officials, followed up with them to freeze the fraudulent amount, and guided the complainant in filing a petition in court for the refund of the held funds. Consequently, Rs 34,00,000 was refunded to the complainant’s bank account. (PMI)
