Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will reach Ahmedabad tonight on a two day visit to Gujarat. He will dedicate the Sardar Sarovar Dam to the nation, at Kevadia in Gujarat tomorrow morning. Prime Minister will also address a public meeting at Dabhoi- in Vadodara district being organized following culmination of Narmada Mahotsav Rathyatra in different part of the state.
AIR Ahmedabad correspondent reports that after the decade long wait for the completion of an ambitious multipurpose Sardar Sarovar Dam project, the dedication ceremony will be attended by lacs of people coming from Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. Former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had laid the foundation stone of the Sardar Sarovar Dam on 5th April 1961. It is now dream come true for the people of Gujarat, as the complete project termed as the life line of the state now being dedicated to the people.
Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will spend entire day in Gujarat tomorrow which is also his birth day. Mr.Rupani said that Sardar Sarovar Dam Project is the best gift to the people of Gujarat on the birth day of Prime Minister.
AIR Correspondent adds that the entire project completed at the cost of about Rs. 60,000 crore has a capacity to irrigate 1.8 million hectares of land in Gujarat and 2.46 lacs hectares land in Rajasthan. The project aims to benefit about 10 lakh farmers and drinking water to be supplied to various villages and towns, is likely to benefit upto 4 crore people.
The project has been described as one of largest ever human endeavors for water transport. The hydro power generated from the turbines installed in the dam provides electricity to Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. Gujarat Government had also launched state wide Narmada Mahotsav Rath Yatra from last 6th September. \
The Specially designed Narmada Raths – travelled through 24 districts in the state covering 10 thousand villages to spread the awareness about the benefits of the complete project. Before leaving for Delhi on Sunday evening, Prime Minister Modi will attend couple of functions and also address the farmers rally at Amreli in Saurashtra in the afternoon.
