Visakhapatnam, June 21PMI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed and led the 11th International Day of Yoga (IYD) celebrations in Visakhapatnam today, highlighting yoga’s global influence and unifying power.
Extending greetings to participants across the world, Modi reflected on the journey of yoga since India proposed the International Yoga Day at the UN—an initiative backed by 175 countries. “Yoga is for everyone—beyond boundaries, backgrounds, age, or ability,” he said, praising its growing adoption globally, from rural youth to astronauts and visually impaired individuals reading yogic texts in Braille.
The PM lauded the people of Visakhapatnam and praised Andhra Pradesh’s Yogandhra Abhiyan, a state-wide yoga initiative. He commended Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Nara Lokesh, recognizing Lokesh’s grassroots efforts in making yoga a social movement. Modi noted that over 2 crore people have joined the campaign, calling it a testament to public participation and a pillar of Viksit Bharat.
Highlighting India’s focus on evidence-based yoga therapy, Modi cited research by AIIMS, New Delhi, showing yoga’s benefits in cardiac, neurological, women’s, and mental health. He noted that medical institutions are integrating yoga into mainstream healthcare through the National Ayush Mission.
