PM Modi asks for British premier’s help in extradition of Vijay Mallaya to India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has raised the issue of bringing fugitive Vijay Mallya back with British Prime Minister Theresa May.

Mr Modi held a meeting with Ms May today on sidelines of G-20 Summit in Hamsburg.

In a tweet, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay said that Mr Modi met his British counterpart and asked for UK’s cooperation for return of escaped Indian economic offenders.

Mallya is wanted in India for Kingfisher Airlines’ default on loans worth nearly 9,000 crore rupees. He has been in the UK since March 2016.

Recently, he was arrested by Scotland Yard on an extradition warrant and was granted bail.
