Hyderabad, Feb 16 (Najaf Ali Shoukat-PMI): Emphasizing the importance of community participation in maintaining peace, V. C. Sajjanar, Commissioner of Police of Hyderabad, said that Peace Committees play a pivotal role in preserving communal harmony and building a crime-free society by acting as a bridge between the police and the public.
Addressing a coordination meeting of the Central Peace and Welfare Committee at the Telangana Integrated Command Control Center auditorium in Banjara Hills on Monday, the Commissioner described Hyderabad as a shining example of “Ganga-Jamuna Tehzeeb” and urged citizens to protect this legacy of unity.
Highlighting the history of the Peace Committees, Sajjanar noted that since their formation in 1984, they have significantly contributed to maintaining law and order and ensuring social stability. He said the peace maintained by citizens and these committees has been a major factor in Hyderabad’s emergence as a global development hub.
With several festivals approaching, he called for strong ground-level coordination to ensure celebrations take place in an atmosphere of brotherhood. He cautioned members against fake propaganda and social media rumors aimed at inciting religious tensions and urged them to actively counter misinformation by sharing verified facts.
The meeting also discussed emerging public safety concerns, including the rise in cybercrime and the menace of drugs and ganja. The Commissioner stressed the need for collective efforts to curb these threats and strengthen trust between the police and citizens so that Hyderabad continues to remain one of the safest cities in the country.
To address local issues more effectively, it was announced that mandatory Peace Committee meetings will be held at the zonal level once every three months. Officials assured that suggestions from members would be taken into consideration and invited citizens to contribute ideas for maintaining law and order.
