Panchayat Raj polls will be a warm up for 2019 elections: Uttam

Alair,  Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President  N. Uttam Kumar Reddy exhorted Congress party’s to treat the Panchayat Raj elections in the State, to be held next year, very seriously as they precede the general elections.

Addressing a meeting of booth-level workers in Alair on Sunday, Uttam Kumar Reddy asked the Congress workers to focus on strengthening the party’s organisation at booth-level. He said that the forthcoming Panchayat Raj elections would be a major test for all the political parties and its results might have an impact on the next Assembly elections. “Each and every Congress worker should be vigorously active in taking the party’s message to the people. You should be armed with the facts and figures of how TRS Government failed to deliver on its promises,” he advised the party workers.

Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has cheated all sections of the society by not honouring the promises that he made them. “Ask people to judge KCR Government based on fulfilment of promises and its performance. Even after 40 months, poor Dalit families did not get three acres of land, Muslims and STs are still waiting for 12% reservation and BCs have remained neglected under TRS regime and have inadequate representation even in State cabinet. In last elections, KCR openly cheated SCs, STs and Muslims. In view of elections, KCR is now talking about BC welfare and Sub-Plan. It is a clear indication that KCR’s next target for cheating are BCs. Congress workers should meet people with the complete list of failures of TRS Government,” he said.

Stating that the Congress party would appoint 50,000 Social Media coordinators, Uttam Kumar Reddy asked all Congress workers to immediately create booth-level WhatsApp groups for effective communication and sharing of content. “People should be told how Dalits were tortured in Sircilla and how Tribals were handcuffed and chained in Khammam by TRS Government. KCR had promised to implement 12% Muslim reservation in four months after coming to power. Congress party has supported the Bill in Assembly to enhance Muslim quota to 12%. But now the Chief Minister is talking about getting approvals from BJP Government at the Centre which shows his lack of commitment towards Muslims reservation,” he said.

He also demanded that the TRS Government increase the quota for BCs under A, B, C and D groups in proportionate to their population. Further, he said that the quota for SCs should also be increased. He also slammed the Chief Minister for not pursuing the issue of SC categorisation with the Centre.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also accused the TRS Government of completely neglecting the agriculture sector which drove nearly 4,000 farmers to suicide during the last 40 months. He promised that the next Congress Government would completely revive the farm sector. Besides waiving off crop loans up to Rs. 2 lakh in a single take, it will also pay bonus in addition to the MSP for all major crops. He also announced that the crop insurance premium would also be paid by the State Government. Speaking about unemployment, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that nearly 30 lakh youth were jobless in Telangana State. “TRS Govt did not create a single new job since it came to power in June 2014. It even failed to fill 1.07 lakh vacancies that existed at the time of formation of Telangana. So far, only 7,000 posts were filled which exposes the inefficiency of KCR Government,” he said.

The TPCC Chief alleged that Telangana, under TRS regime, has emerged as the epicentre of scams and irregularities in the country. “While the government had no money to clear Fee Reimbursement dues, distribute three acres of land for Dalit and Girijan families or clear crop loans, it had thousands of crores of rupees to pay to Andhra contractors in the name of different projects allegedly to get 6% commissions. Unprecedented scams have occurred during TRS regime and those responsible for the same would face an enquiry and punishment after Congress comes to power in 2019,” he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy asked the party workers to actively participate in the revision of voter list for Panchayat Raj elections by consulting the concerned MRO, Tehsildar or RDO. He said a special campaign was being held on January 14 and it must be ensured that all eligible voters are enrolled, he said.

The meeting was also addressed by ex-MLA Bhikshamaiah Goud, TPCC Chief Spokesperson Dr. Dasoju Sravan, K. Anil Reddy, Teenmar Mallana, Lingam Yadav, Promod and other leaders.
