ORR to get more trauma centres

Hyderabad: Firmly believing that every single minute is crucial to save a life, the State government is expanding the trauma care facility along the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Six new trauma care centres (TCCs) will be inaugurated soon at Medchal, Pedda Golkonda, Raviryal, Taramatipet, Kollur and Sultanpur interchanges. These facilities are in addition to the existing 10 centres equipped with advanced life support ambulances at ORR interchanges.

Ambulances, staffed with medical and paramedical personnel will attend to accident victims and give first aid, after which the person will either be shifted to a TCC or a hospital based on his or her condition. The emergency services are extended to people for free.

According to Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) officials, Apollo Hospitals, the agency operating these centres, have provided an ambulance at each centre, which covers about 16 kilometre (8 km on either side) enabling immediate relief in road accidents on the ORR. The facility launched in October 2020 has attended to 907 complaints, saving 147 lives so far.
“The outcome shows the ‘preventable mortality’ i.e., the percentage of deaths that have been prevented due to optimal care given at the Trauma Centres,” an HGCL document says

A control room monitored by a paramedic and staffers round the clock is in place. A toll free number (1066) is provided for ORR Trauma Care Operations and a person can get medical care in case of any medical emergency on ORR by calling this number.

As per HGCL norms, the accident victim should get first aid within 20 minutes, failing which penalties up to Rs 20,000 for every 10 minute delay will be imposed on the agency
