Oppn cheap politics on Bathukamma Saris condemnable: TRS

Hyderabad : TRS leadership today charged the Opposition parties with resorting to cheap politics on Bathukamma sarees distribution program.

Addressing the media at TRSLP office in the Assembly here on Tuesday, party MLA Srinivas Goud expressed displeasure at the incidents of burning Sarees. Goud said the government aims to offer Sarees to the poor women as gift to mark the festival of flowers in the State and also to help handloom workers to derive benefit financially. Srinivas Goud alleged that the Opposition parties were trying to gain politically by blaming the government through social media against the sarees distribution.

He asked the media channels and print media to abstain from carrying such news that only insult the women of the state and dishonor the government. With its malafide intentions to blame the government, the Opposition parties were sabotaging the program for gaining publicity, he fumed. He also said Chief Minister K Chandasekhar Rao, like an elder brother, thought to gift sarees to the poor women on the occasion of Bathukamma State festival.

The officials concerned conducted thorough checks of sarees for quality and rejected the comments as baseless that the low cost sarees are distributed. He also alleged that such incidents are provoked by the frustrated Opposition Congress and Telugu Desam parties which should stop dirty game of maligning the government’s image. “As the State government cannot alone procure 1.04 crore sarees in the State, we brought some sarees from Surat in Gujarat”, he said. He condemned the allegations against MP Kavitha on the sarees program. He pointed out there was overwhelming response from the women in the districts barring the arson incidents orchestrated by the Opposition parties.
