BEIRUT/ GAZA CITY: A member of a Hamas delegation visiting Russia says the group cannot release the captives taken during the October 7 attack until there is a ceasefire in Gaza.
The US says it struck Iranian and pro-Iranian sites in Syria, in action it said was “separate and distinct” from the Israel-Hamas war.
Israel has continued to pound targets in Gaza, hitting residential buildings and killing dozens of Palestinians, many of them children.
Gaza’s health ministry has published the names of thousands of Palestinians killed in the Israeli attacks, saying “behind every number is a story of a person”, after US President Joe Biden questioned the reliability of its death toll.
At least 7,028 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks since October 7, as Israel promises to continue raids into Palestinian territories. More than 1,400 people were killed in the Hamas attack on Israel.
Multiple fires along Lebanon-Israel border
Over the past nearly three weeks, there has been a daily exchange of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli army. Meanwhile, multiple fires have erupted on Lebanon’s border with Israel.
Observers say that an Israeli tactic is to burn trees, bushes, and anywhere Hezbollah fighters can hide and launch attacks into northern Israel.
We’ve seen this happen not just in this conflict but in previous conflicts. Hezbollah has tried to blind its enemy by targeting surveillance cameras in Israeli military positions along the border.
This is why Israel has been using drones to locate sources of fire. The drones have not left the skies, leading many to say that Hezbollah has suffered nearly 45 casualties because of this.
Israel’s ground raid in Gaza
The Israeli army’s spokesperson has said that during the past day, infantry, armoured and engineering forces, with air support, conducted a concentrated raid in the centre of the Gaza Strip as part of preparations for the “next stages of the war.”
“The raid began yesterday in broad daylight, and all the forces I mentioned participated in it as combat forces, and it ended successfully in the hours of this morning,” the spokesperson said, adding that there were no casualties among Israeli forces, who exited Gaza after the conclusion of the operation.
