Akber Owaisi Accuses BJP and Congress of Targeting Muslims Through Demolition Drives; BJP Terms Remarks Irresponsible and Politically Motivated
Hyderabad, Feb 27(PMI) A fresh political controversy has erupted in Telangana after AIMIM Floor Leader Akbaruddin Owaisi claimed that there is “no difference between the BJP and Congress” in their treatment of the Muslim community, particularly in relation to recent demolition drives.
In a video message that has gone viral on social media, Owaisi alleged that both parties were targeting Muslims under the pretext of removing illegal constructions.
Referring to developments in Uttar Pradesh, he said, “In Uttar Pradesh, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is using bulldozers to demolish dargahs, mosques, and houses of poor Muslims. In Telangana, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is acting with the same intensity. Their hostility towards Muslims is evident.”
The remarks have triggered sharp reactions from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which condemned the statements as irresponsible and politically driven. Party leaders said drawing parallels between the two governments was misleading and unwarranted.
BJP State spokesperson NV Subhash criticized Owaisi’s comments, stating that as an elected representative, he should exercise restraint. He defended the actions taken in Uttar Pradesh, asserting that they were aimed at curbing illegal constructions and criminal activities, not targeting any particular community.
The controversy carries political significance as the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) has been supporting the Congress government in Telangana since it assumed power and had backed the Congress candidate in the recent Jubilee Hills by-election.
With political parties trading accusations, the issue has added to the growing tensions in the State’s political landscape. (pressmediaofindia, com)
