‘No American hurt in Jeddah consulate gunfire exchange’

JEDDAH: No Americans were injured during an exchange of gunfire near the US consulate in Jeddah, according to the US State Department.

“The US Embassy and Consulate remain in contact with Saudi authorities as they investigate the incident,” a department spokesperson said in a written statement.

The incident involved an armed man exchanging gunfire with Saudi security authorities near the US consulate building, resulting in the deaths of the gunman and a security guard. The State Department has confirmed that they are in communication with Saudi authorities as they investigate the incident.

According to the state news agency SPA, the armed man stopped near the American Consulate building in Jeddah and exited the vehicle with a firearm in hand.

Saudi security authorities took action and engaged in a firefight with the individual, ultimately resulting in his death. Sadly, a Nepalese security guard working at the consulate was injured during the incident and later passed away.

The authorities are currently conducting investigations into the shootings to gather more information about the events that unfolded. The State Department has not yet provided further details or comments in response to requests.
