Hyderabad, Nov.13 (PMI): Nine persons died and eight were injured seriously when fire broke out at a Balaji residential building located at Bazaar Guard in Nampally on Monday morning.
According to police, the fire broke out in the morning in a four-storey apartment opposite Himalaya Hotel in Bazarghat, Nampally.
The fire broke out while the car was being repaired as there was a garage on the ground floor. Soon the fire spread and some chemical drums stored in the cellar also caught fire resulting in thick smoke and subsequent huge fire.
Six of the deceased belonged to the same family. A BDS doctor Tahura Farheen, who died in the accident, had come to her parents’ house along with her two children as it was a holiday on Sunday. Farheen, along with her two children, lost her life in the accident that took place in the morning. Residents of the apartment and several workers were trapped in the fire.
According to police, the deceased were identified as Md Jakeer hussain (66) Retired Doctor, Md Azam (57) Businessman , Rehman Sulthana (50) Housewife, Nikat Sulthana (50 ) Teacher , Tahura Farheen (35) Housewife , Hasebur Rahman (32) Pharmacy, Faiza Sameena (26) Student , Taroba (13) Student and Manha (06) Student.
Md. Azam (54), Rehana Sultana (50), Faiza Sameen (26), Tahura farheen (35), Tooba (6), Tarooba (13), Md. Zakeer Hussain (66), Hasib-ur-rahman (32) and Nikath Sultana (55).
The injured have been shifted to Osmania Hospital and are being treated. The NDRF and GHMC personnel are continuing rescue operations at the incident site.
The house owner, Ramesh Jaiswal, is currently absconding. He owns many chemical factories in the city. The chemical drums kept in the basement of the apartment on the ground floor.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao expressed shock at the fire mishap and extended condolences to the families of the victims.
He asked the officials to provide best treatment possible to those who were injured in the incident. He also wanted them to constantly monitor their condition and take immediate measures for their speedy recovery.
Ministers KT Rama Rao and Talasani Srinivas, Union Minister and BJP Telangana unit president G Kishan Reddy and others inspected the fire mishap site and extended condolences to the families of the victims. (PMI)
