The Hyundai i20 car that exploded, killing 13 people, is registered under Rashid Ali’s name.
New Delhi Nov 16 (PMI) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday, November 15, arrested Amir Rashid Ali, a Kashmiri student from Samboora village in Pulwama district, Jammu and Kashmir, in connection with the Red Fort blast in Delhi that occurred on November 10, claiming 13 lives and leaving over 30 people injured.
Authorities believe Rashid Ali was a key aide of Dr. Umar Nabi, the alleged suicide bomber responsible for the attack. The NIA revealed that the Hyundai i20 car used in the explosion was registered under Rashid Ali’s name, further tying him to the planning and execution of the terror strike.
Background on Dr. Umar Nabi
Dr. Nabi, 28, worked as an assistant professor in the General Medicine department at Al Falah University in Faridabad, Haryana. Investigators describe him as the most radicalised operative in a terror network spanning Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh. Evidence suggests he was planning a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) attack around the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition on December 6, targeting a crowded location, either in New Delhi or at a place of religious significance.
Officials have pieced together that the plan involved Dr. Nabi placing the explosive-laden vehicle in a public area and then fleeing the scene, indicating a carefully orchestrated attack designed to cause maximum casualties.
Investigation Progress
Since the blast, the NIA has interrogated 73 witnesses, including those injured in the explosion. Investigators continue to examine the network that facilitated the attack, with Rashid Ali’s arrest marking a significant breakthrough in the probe.
Authorities are now focusing on tracking any additional accomplices, uncovering the extent of radicalisation, and preventing any potential follow-up attacks in the region. (pressmediaofindia.com)
