New DelhiNov 22 (PMINEWS) The government on Friday implemented four major Labour Codes that had been pending since 2020, bringing significant changes to Provident Fund (PF), Employees’ State Insurance (ESIC), and social security coverage. Millions of workers who were previously excluded will now benefit from these reforms.
The four codes now in force are: Wages, Industrial Relations, Social Security, and Occupational Safety & Health. They replace 29 older labour laws, creating a modern, consolidated framework.
The new codes introduce several worker-friendly measures, including timely payment of minimum wages for all and universal social security coverage, extending even to gig and platform workers.
However, the framework also introduces some employer-friendly provisions, such as longer work hours, expanded fixed-term employment, and more flexible retrenchment rules.(pressmediaofindia.com)
