GAZA STRIP/ JERUSALEM: Israeli forces killed at least 29 Palestinians across the Gaza Strip on Monday, medics say, including four in an attack on a tent camp in Gaza City.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has promised “a powerful response” to Yemen’s Houthis after the rebels claimed more attacks on Israel, as well as US aircraft carriers in the Red Sea.
Palestinians in Gaza are mourning the death of Pope Francis, who had maintained close and consistent video contact with the small Christian community in the territory throughout the ongoing war.
At least 51,240 Palestinians have been confirmed killed and 116,931 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza since it began 18 months ago.
The Gaza Government Media Office updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying that thousands of people missing under the rubble are presumed dead. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the Hamas-led October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.
The Times of Israel is reporting that an Israeli police officer who was mounted on a horse whipped a photojournalist from the Haaretz newspaper with his riding crop during an antigovernment protest in Tel Aviv.
The Times identified the journalist as Itai Ron.
Videos of the incident, published online, shows the police officers on horses rising into the crowds of protesters and trying to disperse them.
At least two protesters have been arrested, according to The Times.
The UN’s special rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territory has hit back at comments by the US ambassador to Israel, in which he called on Hamas to release Israeli captives held in Gaza in exchange for lifting the blockade on Gaza.
In a post on X, Francesa Albanese addressed Mike Huckabee and wrote:
“It is my duty to bring to Your Excellency’s attention Article 8(2)(b)(xxv) of the Rome Statute, which states that withholding humanitarian aid is a war crime.
“This action would further aggravate conditions of life calculated to destroy the Palestinian population of Gaza. No one benefits from this not the Palestinians, not the Israelis, not the North Americans none of us.
“Together, we can stop this monstrosity.”
According to Palestinian media;
The Israeli military shot a 16-year-old Palestinian boy in the abdomen during a raid on the town of Idhna.
It also continued its offensive in the city of Tulkarem for the 85th consecutive day, with witnesses describing patrols and raids on shops that forced their closure.
The soldiers also surrounded a home in the town of ar-Ram in Jerusalem that belongs to a Palestinian man involved in a car-ramming attack in July of last year and are preparing to demolish it. The man has been identified as Muhammad Shihab.
They also raided the town of al-Issawiya in occupied East Jerusalem.

From the north to the south, the military has been bombing tent camps.
In Gaza City, a fire tore through makeshift tents after an Israeli attack, killing at least four people. Witnesses say the area was sheltering displaced civilians.
In the north of the enclave, Israeli forces carried out air attacks on eastern areas of Gaza City, including in the vicinity of Halimah al-Saadiyah School in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood. (Int’l News Desk)
