Hyderabad-15 ‘May (PMI) The 435-year-old Darulshifa building, a heritage monument in the heart of Hyderabad and globally known for housing the sacred Alawa Sartouq Mubarak, is facing grave danger due to negligence and unauthorized construction work. The Darulshifa building, which is a protected historical structure, has not received proper maintenance or preservation efforts from the authorities for many years. As a result, this important heritage site has been left to deteriorate.
A recent alarming issue has come to light regarding unauthorized construction within the precincts of Darulshifa, specifically near the Alawa Sartouq. Reliable sources have confirmed that a kitchen is being constructed near the Ashoor Khana, raising concerns among experts that this could lead to irreparable damage to the historical structure. Moreover, the installation of slippery granite tiles in the front portion of Alawa Sartouq is particularly concerning. During Monsoon and Muharram, when large numbers of visitors gather, these floors can become dangerously slippery, posing a serious risk, especially to children, elderly people, and women.
This situation has raised serious questions, as GHMC or any individual cannot make changes to a historical structure without proper permissions. “This is not just negligence, it is a blatant violation of heritage protection laws,” said a concerned citizen. The local Shia community, especially the youth, is expressing deep concern over these developments, and there are increasing calls for immediate legal action. The community leaders are urging the authorities to halt the construction immediately, investigate those responsible, and formulate a structured restoration plan for the Darulshifa heritage building.(PMI)
