Narendra Modi to Rejig His Cabinet After August 15; Will Amit Shah Get a Key Ministry?

New Delhi, July 31: With four key ministries not having a full-time ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to rejig his Cabinet after August 15. The development comes at a time when Bharatiya Janata Party chief and Modi’s key aide Amit Shah is all set to enter the Upper House from Gujarat.
The non-performing ministries will be axed from the Cabinet, the India Today reported.
Defence Ministry, Urban Development Ministry, Information and Broadcasting Ministry, Environment Ministry are not having full-time ministers and the existing ministers are given additional responsibility. After Manohar Parrikar sworn in as the Goa Chief Minister in March, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley got the additional charge of the Defence Ministry.
Science and Technology Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan got the additional charge of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change following the death of Anil Madhav Dave in May.
After the National Democratic Alliance chose former Union minister M Venkaiah Naidu as its Vice Presidential candidate, Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar got Housing and Urban Development Ministry and Smriti Irani got additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
In the previous Cabinet rejigs, ministers were either removed or demoted. Irani who had Human Resources Development Ministry was given Textiles Ministry, DV Sadananda Gowda was first given Railways, then Law and Justice Ministry and finally became Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
Agra MP Ram Shankar Katheria was ousted from the union council of ministers after a string of controversial remarks. Katheria was the Minister of State for Human Resources Development Ministry.
