Hyderabad/ Vijayawada, Oct.17 (PMI): The Press Council of India (PCI) has taken Suo Motu cognizance of the brutal murder of K Satyanarayana, Correspondent of Andhra Jyothi at Thondangi Mandal in East Godavari district on Tuesday night and issued notice to the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Andhra Pradesh to file a report immediately.
PCI Chairman CK Prasad expressed serious concern over the murder of Satyanarayana by unidentified assailants for his reportage and ordered issue of notice to the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
K Amarnath and K Sreenivas Reddy, former members, M A Majid, member of the Press Council, President I V Subba Rao and General Secretary Chandu Janardhan of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), who requested the PCI Chairman to take suo motu cognisance of the brutal murder of Satyanarayana, welcomed the action of the Council. They hoped that the government of Andhra Pradesh would take immediate steps to arrest the murderers of the journalist and allay the fears of the journalists in the state over their safety.
