A Borivli doctor’s presence of mind in the wee hours of today saved his life after his car caught fire on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Dr Harilal Chowdhary had been in Worli and was on his way home when his Maruti Omni suddenly caught fire. The fire brigade and the Bandra police were informed, who reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The incident happened around 12.30 am. Dr Chowdhary was driving his car, loaded with a CNG kit, when he noticed a sudden malfunction. “I left from Worli around 12 am and decided to take the sea link; en route, my car stopped. A few seconds later, when I tried to restart it, I realised there was a foul smell emanating from somewhere within. Not wanting to take any chances, I immediately stepped out, and within seconds, the vehicle caught fire,” he added.
Following the incident, the security staff at the BWSL reached the spot and closed off traffic in one direction until the situation was brought under control. They also informed the Bandra police and the fire brigade.
