Minister distributes Laptops to Social Welfare Residential Students

Hyderabad,  “Thanks to the Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for sanctioning laptops to poor students like me. I wouldn’t have afforded a laptop, but for the government’s help. Now, I can do projects and assignments using my own laptop”, said Sridhar Babu of IIT,Bombay.

The minister for Scheduled Caste Development Department G. Jagadish Reddy distributed laptops to 24 Social Welfare Residential Educational institutions’ students, who secured admission into IITs, NITs and other prestigious institutions in the last year. He also announced a cash incentive of Rs 50,000 to students, who joined IITs and Rs 40,000 to students of NITs and other prominent academic institutions.

While thanking Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, the minister said the idea behind this support scheme is that no poor student in the State should lag behind the well-off students in pursuing higher studies. The government has launched new residential schools and degree colleges in a big way to impart quality education to students under the KG-PG mission, the minister remarked. The Telangana is the first State in the country to launch residential degree colleges for women and men, and  provide nutritious diet to students far better than many corporate institutions in the country.

The vision of the Chief Minister is that no child in the State should feel left out because of poverty. The minister called upon the students to be the role models to other students in their villages. The minister congratulated Secretary Dr RS Praveen Kumar and teaching staff for striving hard in helping a large number of students  excel in national and State level entrance examinations.

Special Chief Secretary of SC Development Department Ajay Mishra and Dr RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS participated in the distribution ceremony.
