Maoist Azad encounter case: Court orders prosecution of 20 police personnel

Adilabad,  The Adilabad District Special Court has delivered a sensational verdict in regard to Maoist leader Azad encounter case here on Thursday. The Court directed to file cases against 20 police personnel participated in the Azad encounter and take up inquiry in this case.
Speaking after the Court’s verdict, Azad’s wife Padma said that the Court verdict gave happiness. “The belief on judiciary strengthened with this verdict. I hope that the police participated in the encounter would get punishment”, she said.
It may be mentioned here that the police encountered Maoist leader Cherukuri Rajkumar alias Azad in an encounter took place on July 2, 2011 in Adilabad district forest area along with journalist Hemachandra Pande. The human rights associations expressed anger at the police in regard to Azad encounter then. They alleged that the police caught Azad and Hemachandra Pande at Nagpur in Maharashtra state and killed at Adilabad forests. The human rights activists staged several protest programs then in this encounter.
