The accused, Linu, was a an employee at a hotel in Nedumkandam in Kerala’s Idukki. He developed intimacy with a married woman who was living away from her husband. A textile showroom employee in Idukki’s Adimali, she was having an affair with Linu for over six months. Reports said that the couple live-streamed having sex knowingly, but it seems the woman was unaware of what Linu was up to. Linu used to frequent her house and used to stay over too, promising the woman that he’d marry her.
Meanwhile, police said that Linu accepted that he live-streamed the intimate moments to get “likes” on Facebook and that the woman knew Linu was recording the entire episode. The physical interactions, however, seemed consensual, the police said. Hence, the rape charge by the woman may not hold up. Police seized Linu’s phone and found more private videos of him with the woman.
His Facebook live-telecast, meanwhile, went viral on various social media platforms and instant messaging applications like WhatsApp.
