The Union Government is working with determination to start air services to the historic town of Orugallu – Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy
Hyderabad;2 March.2025 (Shoukat–PMI) The Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri K. Rammohan Naidu, said that he is happy to share the good news of clearance of Warangal (Mamunur) Airport with the people of Telangana and that the construction will be completed in two and a half years after the completion of land acquisition. He said that it is the long-standing desire of the people of this place to get clearance for Warangal Airport and he is happy that it has happened during his tenure. Rammohan Naidu, along with Union Minister for Coal and Mines, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, participated in the press conference organized at the Central Government Complex in Kavadiguda.
On this occasion, Union Minister K. Rammohan Naidu said that Warangal Airport was previously the largest airport in Asia and some activity was going on there till 1981. He said that airports have been set up in small cities as well and that a revolution has started in the aviation sector after Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister. He said that in the last ten years, the number of airports in the country has increased from 74 to 150. Rammohan Naidu said that airports have been set up in small cities as well.
He said that the clearance for Mamunur Airport is a long-standing desire of the people of the state. He said that in a big city like Warangal, no steps were taken in the past regarding the airport, and now it has been fulfilled. A 2800-meter runway is required for the establishment of the airport. We have sent proposals from the Center that an additional 280 acres of land is required. If the state government acquires land quickly, the airport work will be expedited. We have taken NOC from Shamshabad Airport and given clearance. A site was previously proposed in the case of Bhadradri Airport. The previously suggested place was not suitable, and another place was proposed. In the case of Bhadradri, we will examine the feasibility and take a decision on a new place,” said Rammohan Naidu.
The establishment of the airport will change the face of the area. There are immense opportunities for textiles and the education sector in Warangal. The development of the area will accelerate with the establishment of the airport, the minister said.
Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy said that the center is ready to provide all kinds of assistance related to commercial operations by linking the Warangal airport with the UDAN scheme.
Union Minister Kishan Reddy said that the central government is working hard to start air services to the historic town of Orugallu, and as part of this, the central government has given the green signal to the Mamunur brownfield airport on the outskirts of Warangal, which has been pending for a long time. He said that the establishment of the airport will improve employment opportunities in Warangal and the establishment of Warangal airport is a long-standing desire of the people of Telangana.
Warangal (Mamunur) Airport is known as the largest airport in the country before independence. The Central Government hopes to pave the way for development in this region by reviving this ancient airport. It is working sincerely to restore the glory of the Kakatiya era to Warangal. For this, I express my heartfelt gratitude to the Honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the Minister of Civil Aviation Shri Rammohan Naidu.
The Modi government is working to provide flight facilities in second-tier cities like Warangal, Bhadrachalam, Nizamabad and Adilabad in Telangana. We will also start discussions with various airlines for connectivity with Warangal for tourism and trade. Shri Kishan Reddy said that by bringing this Mamunur Airport into use, employment opportunities around Warangal will also improve.(PMI)
