Mahmood Ali distributes Bathukamma saris in City

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Mahamood Ali today said Bathukamma Festival in Telangana is one of the most important festivals. He distributed sarees to the women at Malakpet Shoaib Library and Sripuram Colony community hall at Musarambagh along with MLA Balala and other officials as part of Bathukamma festival here.

The Deputy Chief Minister said the women will celebrate the occasion with pomp and gaiety. The women of Hindu and Muslim are happy to receive the sarees from the government for the flowers festival, he said.

Reacting to some incidents of burning of sarees and protests by some women on the alleged poor quality and low-cost sarees, Mahamood Ali said small mistakes might take place when such a big program was conducted spending Rs 222 crore to distribute 1.04 cr sarees among the women across the State. “Next year, this problem will not repeat as we will distribute better quality sarees to the women”, he maintained.

A large number of women and girls do gather and celebrate the floral festival on a grand note, he said. The State Government has made elaborate arrangements for the Bathukamma festival in all districts. He also said that just like an elder brother Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is offering the sarees to the poor women for the festival. The TRS Government has been conducting the festivals like Ramzan and Christmas and offering similar gifts to the poor people he said. This sort of programs strengthen the communal amity and increase bond of brotherhood and prevail peace in the society he expressed hope. He called upon the women to do not belittle the sarees comparing them with cost and quality. The sarees are gift from the government and the people should accept them he added.

Balala said Muslim women were also taking Bathukamma sarees on the occasion. This will help unite both Hindus and Muslims to celebrate the festivals, the MLA said.
