Mumbai: Maharashtra assembly election results are out. The ‘Mahayuti’ alliance under the leadership of the BJP has won a resounding victory, narrowly limiting the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ led by the Congress. With this, everyone’s attention is now mainly on the issue of who will be elected as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra. Even though the BJP leadership had announced earlier that the assembly elections would be held with Shinde as the chief minister, the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the election results. Devendra Fadnavis has been lauded by the leadership of the party as the BJP entrusted the key responsibilities of the assembly election campaign to Devendra Fadnavis, and accordingly, he effectively put the party on the path to victory.
Fadnavis’ reaction
Fadnavis has been voicing his opinion since before the election on the question of who will be the CM if the Mahayuti alliance comes back to power. He said that Union Minister Amit Shah has given clear instructions to the alliance leaders and said that the CM will be selected only after consulting with all the alliance leaders. Fadnavis reiterated the same thing a few hours before the courting. “Any decision is acceptable to all. There is no dispute in this,” he said
40 Shiv Sena MLAs led by Eknath Shinde rebelled against the undivided Shiv Sena in 2022 and formed a separate faction. They declared their support for BJP. With this, the ‘Maha Vikas Aghadi’ government headed by Uddhav Thackeray lost power. With this, Shinde was formed as the Chief Minister of the BJP government.
Who has better chances?
Although there is competition between Shinde and Fadnavis mainly for the post of Chief Minister, there is an opinion among the majority of BJP leaders that Fadnavis will get the post of CM. 145 seats are required for a majority out of 288 assembly seats, but the BJP has come close to that number on its own. This gave the BJP the ability to form a government on its own without Shinde’s support. Eknath Shinde was not aware of this. Strengthening these developments, posters were displayed in many places as the results came out, saying that the future Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis.(PMI)
