Khammam, Oct.28 (PMI): A woman TSRTC conductor allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in Khammam on Monday, allegedly due to the government’s tough stand on the ongoing TSRTC strike.
The deceased was identified as Niraja, 37, a native of Khammam city. She was working at Sathupalli Bus Depot. Her family members alleged that she was depressed over the continuation of the strike. However, no suicide note was found in the house. Meanwhile, the TSRTC men’s strike entered 24th day on Monday. All Opposition party leaders have been extending their support to TSRTC JAC employee unions and have been carrying out protests across the State.
On hearing the news, the enraged striking RTC workers, leaders of several political parties took the body of lady conductor in a procession to the Khammam District Collectorate and tried to storm the office. However, police personnel at the Collectorate stopped them resulting in stampede between the cops and protesters. Irate RTC workers staged a protest at Sathupalli RTC depot and prevented the buses coming out from the depot. With this, vehicular traffic on the Khammam-Sathupalli highway remained paralyzed. RTC workers protested before the Bhadrachalam and Manugur bus depots aggravating tension.
