KCR faults in appointing TS RERA chairman: alleges BJP’s Gudur

Hyderabad, June 25 (PMI): Bharatiya Janata Party  (BJP) state executive committee member Gudur Narayana Reddy on Saturday faulted Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao for appointing a non eligible person as chairman of Telangana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (TS RERA).

Issuing a media statement, he said that the state government has violated the norms prescribed by RERA Act, 2016 for appointing a person as chairman of the TSRERA.

“According to the Act a person who is, or has been, in the service of the State Government shall not be appointed as a Chairperson unless such person has held the post of Additional Secretary to the Central Government or any equivalent post in the Central Government or State Government. In the same way a person who is, or has been, in the service of the State Government shall not be appointed as a member unless such person has held the post of Secretary to the State Government or any equivalent post in the State Government or Central Government,” he said.

It means, he stated, a person who has held the post of additional secretary in the Union Government or equivalent post in the state government, or post of secretary of the state government on in the Centre should be appointed as chairman of the State RERA.

However, the state government appointed N Satyanarayana as chairman of TS RERA, who has been a joint secretary in the state government, clearly violating the norms of the RERA Act, 2016.

He said that by appointing an unqualified and incompetent person as chairman of RERA, the state government has made the institution a toothless one. He alleged that the present chairman could be easily influenced by BRS leaders. The present chairman may not act independently in regulating the Real Estate business in and around Hyderabad.

He said that Real Estate business is like a mafia activity in some cases and there is a need for a strong regulatory authority with efficient chairman and members to deal with them.

He said that by appointing relatively ineligible person the state government has toned down the power of TSRERA. He said that the objective of safeguarding the interests of home buyers has been compromised with this.

The BJP leader said that every year hundreds of Real Estate ventures would be launched in the Hyderabad and in its surroundings. Some developers use unscrupulous methods to make money through the Real Estate Business.

In several instances the home and plot buyers were deceived by the developers in the name of pre launch offers and others. Thousands of people have lost hundreds of crores of rupees in the hands of the fraudulent developers. This has been brining bad name to Real Estate business in Hyderabad.

Hence there was an urgent need to appoint qualified and efficient person as chairman of the TSRERA so that frauds in the business could be nipped in the bud and interests of buyers are protected. (PMI)
